LARKSPUR, Colo. -- A Larkspur family is reliving its close encounter with a car thief Friday morning. But this wasn't just any car thief... it was an adult and very menacing black bear.

The bear managed to get into Ben Story's Toyota Corolla, put the car into neutral and send the vehicle skidding over one hundred feet into some trees on the family's property.

"The destruction is amazing," said Story. "He tore everything up and managed not to miss one little square inch of the car, he got it all."

A neighbor of the Storys first heard the car honking shortly after two a.m.. When Douglas County Sheriff's Deputies arrived, they spotted the bear inside the vehicle. The Story family of five was asleep inside their house and never heard any commotion.

Ralph Story said his 17-year-old son had left a peanut butter sandwich inside the vehicle and said the scent of the food undoubtedly prompted the bear to break in and enter.

Bear Raids Kitchen, Steals Teddy Bear

LACONIA, N.H. -- A black bear walked into a New Hampshire house through an open door, ate two pears and a bunch of grapes, took a drink from the family fishbowl and grabbed a stuffed bear on its way out the door.

Mary Beth Parkinson says the bear apparently took advantage of the open outside door to get into her kitchen Tuesday in Laconia, about 20 miles north of Concord. She thinks the garage door going up scared the bear enough that it fled the house.

She says she arrived in time to save the fish.

Parkinson said her 6- and 9-year-old boys made sure the doors were locked before they went to bed.
