A Vermont teenager is dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound he suffered inside a school building.
Police were called to Mount Mansfield Union High School in Jericho at 8:15 this morning after a boy was found unresponsive in a bathroom.
The boy has been identified as 15-year-old Connor Menning of Huntington. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say their initial investigation indicates Menning died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
"It's hard to describe in words really," Chittenden East Superintendent John Alberghini said. "I really just feel terrible for this family and this young man's friends and for him, so I'm very, very sad."
Despite the tragedy, school remains in session and students are proceeding with scheduled exams.
The school is providing counseling services but also urges parents to be home when students arrive after school to help them through the incident.
