'Spider-Man' Villain Rhys Ifans Charged With Battery at Comic-Con

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KTLA) -- "The Amazing Spider-Man" villain Rhys Ifans has landed in hot water after allegedly attacking a female security guard at Comic-Con Friday.
The Wales-born actor was allegedly running late for a panel on the upcoming superhero flick when he was stopped by a female security guard when a member of his entourage failed to provide proper credentials.
According to San Diego Police, Ifans became hostile and struck the security guard in the chest before continuing on through the backstage area.
After the panel, the security guard issued a citizen's arrest and cited Ifans for misdemeanor battery.
The guard, who was privately employed, did not require treatment.
A Sony spokesman issued the following statement Saturday: "Rhys Ifans was detained by Comic-Con security after a brief incident backstage prior to and immediately following the 'Amazing Spider-Man' panel. Police were notified and a citation was issued to Mr. Ifans, who deeply regrets this incident."
It is unclear if the city of San Diego will press charges.
Ifans plays Dr. Curt Connors, a scientist who transforms into the Lizard in the 2012 reboot of the Marvel superhero franchise.
