FRIENDS CONCERNED | 'Hasn't hit true bottom,' one says of her fragile mental state

July 8, 2010

As Lindsay Lohan prepares for her upcoming jail sentence, two sources very close to Lohan express deep concern for the troubled actress mental state.
''She is so angry, so very angry. She may have said she was responsible for her actions in court, but she really believes she is the victim here ... being unfairly treated,'' said a longtime business associate, who added, ''I think she's really lost it. ...
"It will take a long time and lots of professional help for Lindsay to see the light at the end of this extremely dark tunnel she's dug for herself.''
A friend who has known Lohan since her ''Mean Girls'' days also worries that ''Lindsay isn't thinking rationally. As someone who has been in recovery [from drug and alcohol dependency] for nearly seven years, I can tell you that Lindsay has not hit her true bottom, has not come to realize she is incapable of overcoming her addictions without help and without a very strong recovery program."
The first source also said many of Lohan's closest confidants, including her mother, Dina, and attorney Shawn Chapman Holley, were 'taken aback and very concerned'' about the rambling notes in red ink Lohan jotted down while in Judge Marsha Revel's Beverly Hills courtroom Tuesday. Another shocker: the tiny f-words painted on Lohan's middle fingers.
''She is not in touch with reality. It's like she has a death wish,'' added the Lohan associate.
As for that ''death wish,'' several Lohan friends and associates told the Sun-Times and several other media outlets that the actress -- who just celebrated her 24th birthday Friday -- is being watched ''24/7,'' as there are concerns Lohan's post-sentencing depression may lead her to take action that could threaten her well-being.
'' 'Suicide watch' is too strong a term, but Lindsay is being watched very closely -- pretty much round-the-clock -- just for her own good,'' added the longtime friend.
As for the manicure, that source said Lohan claimed the f-you curse was aimed at several targets. ''She intended it for the paparazzi, for TMZ, and as a message to her father, who infuriates her with his constant, self-absorbed meddling in her life.''
When told that the fingernail adornment might come to Revel's attention, Lohan reportedly said, ''Well f--- her too! She hates me and I hate her. She's just an envious, ugly bitch who's jealous of me.''
In those red-lettered courtroom jottings, Lohan wrote about her alcohol treatment sessions, how the hearing was a media zoo, the presence of her parents in the courtroom, ''so-called friends'' and -- incongruously -- a Haiti relief fund-raiser taking place in London.
While Lohan does not begin her jail term until July 20, she must continue to wear that alcohol-monitoring SCRAM ankle bracelet. However, friends are more concerned about prescription medications -- especially Dilaudid, a powerful painkiller said to be several times stronger than morphine. ''For Lindsay, Dilaudid is like her heroin -- and I'm just worried she's going to OD on it,'' said a member of Lohan's inner circle.
In addition to the Dilaudid, Lohan also has current prescriptions for Ambien and Adderall -- both legal for her to take and undetectable by her SCRAM monitor.
