Man Places Thousands of Prank Calls to 911

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- Police arrested an East Los Angeles man Friday after he placed over 18,000 prank calls to 911.
Beginning in August 2010, emergency dispatch responders at California Highway Patrol's Los Angeles Communications Center began receiving harassing and annoying phone calls from a man now identified as Maurice Cruz, CHP said.
Cruz, 43, used a number of non-initialized cell phones, which made tracing his calls difficult.
To date, Cruz placed over 18,000 phone calls to the 911 emergency lines.
After a lengthy investigation, CHP and Secret Service agents were able to trace the calls and arrested Cruz early Friday morning at his home on Hammel Street in East Los Angeles.
Cruz was booked on charges of misusing 911 to annoy or harass.
