CHP Makes Arrest in Series of Freeway Shootings
In the past several weeks, nearly 60 vehicles have been targeted by a freeway sniper.

SAN BERNARDINO -- A 40-year-old Hesperia man has been arrested on suspicion of shooting out the rear windows of vehicles on a number of Southern California freeways.
William Frye, a satellite television installer, was taken into custody after CHP officers saw him fire a gun from his pickup as it traveled south on Interstate 15, said CHP Capt. Joe Flores
The shot blew out the rear window of an SUV.
Frye is suspected of being responsible for as many as 70 such shootings in the past couple of months, Flores said.
CHP officers who witnessed the shooting were working undercover on freeways, looking for the freeway shooter, Flores said.
The shootings have been occurring sporadically on the 10, 15, 91 and 215 freeways in recent weeks. Most of the cars have had their back windows shattered, but no one has been hurt.
Sharee Crab said her side window was shot out, leaving shattered glass across the back seat. She told KTLA she had just dropped off her daughter at school, otherwise the girl would have been sitting on that side.
In their attempt to narrow down a suspect, CHP officials are asking anyone who has had their vehicle windows shot out to get as much information as they can including the type of other vehicles around them and, if possible, license plate numbers.
Officials believe the suspect is using a BB or pellet gun to carry out the shootings while driving in another vehicle.
If you are a victim of a freeway sniper, CHP officials say you should pull over to a safe location and call 911.
A CHP Officer will be dispatched to their location.
Investigators say there is no suspect description and there have been "various vehicle descriptions."
The investigation is on going and anyone with information is asked to contact their nearest CHP office or call 800-TELL-CHP.
