LOS ANGELES -- Former 70s teen idol Leif Garrett has been ordered to stand trial on a felony count of heroin possession.

Garrett, 48, who is free on bail, is set to be arraigned on July 7th.

A trial was ordered after Garrett waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

Garrett was arrested on February 1st at a Metrolink station at Pershing Square after he was searched by sheriff's deputies.

Defense attorney Andrew Flier said authorities illegally searched Garrett. He says Garrett disputes the contention that he was nervous and sweating profusely, which prompted his search and arrest.

"He's very upset about this arrest," Flier said.

In 2006, the troubled singer/actor was arrested for possession of heroin and quaaludes while allegedly riding a Metro Red Line train, also in downtown L.A., without a ticket.

He was sentenced to 90 days in jail for the incident.

In 1999, Los Angeles police arrested the bandanna-wearing musician in the MacArthur Park area after he allegedly tried to buy narcotics from undercover officers.

In 1979, Garrett was behind the wheel of a Porsche and allegedly under the influence of beer and drugs when he rear-ended a car, leaving his best friend Roland Winkler, a paraplegic.

Garrett frequently appeared in the teen magazine Tiger Beat, and was the subject of a VH-1 "Behind The Music" special that traced his rise from child actor on such shows as "The FBI" and "Gunsmoke" to the decline of his musical career in the early 1980s.

In the 1990s, he appeared in such films as "Dominion" and "The Whispering."
