Three men are in custody on suspicion of attempted murder after a brawl broke out before the USC-UCLA football game Saturday. Two people were taken to a hospital with stab wounds, Pasadena police said.
The brawl started about 4:30 p.m. in parking lot 1 at the Rose Bowl. Kickoff was scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Police called to the scene found 50 to 75 people fighting, said Cmdr. Daryl Qualls of the Pasadena Police Department.
Three men were arrested and are being held on suspicion of attempted murder, he said.
The two victims were taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital and were listed in fair condition.
One officer involved in breaking up the fight was treated for a sprained wrist, Qualls said.
He said alcohol was involved and that police were working under the assumption that the brawl erupted out of the longstanding rivalry between the two schools.
Authorities said bail has been set at $1 million for each of the three arrested. The men initially were held on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon before police decided to increase the allegations, Qualls said.
