Nearly 60,000 Massachusetts residents are without power tonight as a fierce snowstorm plows across the state.
As of 9:30 p.m., about 12,600 National Grid customers are without power, said spokeswoman Debbie Drew.
In Nantucket, there were approximately 2,000 homes without power on the island due to a downed power line, she said.
Drew said crews were working to restore power to the affected areas.
NStar spokesman Michael Durand said his company counted about 45,000 customers without power tonight, mostly on Cape Cod, the New Bedford area and across the south shore
Durand said NStar had hired private contractors to supplement their workforce to better respond to the outages.
