LOS ANGELES -- A man who was taken into custody while running through traffic while taking off his clothes has died at a hospital.

Officers were called to 54th Street and Avalon Boulevard just before 8 a.m. responding to reports of a naked man in traffic.

Police say the unidentified man was "in traffic and removing his clothing," Richard French of the LAPD said.

The officers saw the man, who was nude or nearly nude, and began chasing him.

He was eventually subdued by officers using beanbag and Taser devices, French said.

The man was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

His name is being withheld, until his relatives can be notified.
