Rapture Pastor Hospitalized After Suffering Stroke

OAKLAND, Calif. (KTLA) -- The California-based radio preacher who predicted the end of the world has been hospitalized after suffering a mild stroke.

89-year-old preacher Harold Camping, president of Family Radio, was taken from his home to Highland Hospital in Oakland.

Michael Garcia, the special projects coordinator at Family Radio, said Camping's doctors are pleased with his progress, but didn't offer any details.

Camping gained national attention last month when he claimed Doomsday was going to happen on May 21, 2011.

Camping's Family Radio spent more than $100 million publicizing the rapture prediction.

After the date passed without incident, Camping claimed a "spiritual" judgment had happened on May 21, and the physical rapture would happen on October 21, 2011.
