STRATFORD, CT -- A school bus driver is facing charges after video footage from her bus showed her texting while driving.

Police said Evelyn Guzman, 47, of Henry Avenue, Stratford, turned herself in to police.

She is charged with risk of injury to a minor and second-degree reckless endangerment.

Her arrest stems from a 10-month investigation that began after police received an assault complaint about Guzman's daughter, Jennifer Davila.

Deputy Police Chief Michael Harry said officers received a call from the parents of a 9-year-old autistic girl, a passenger on Guzman's bus.

Her parents said the girl repeatedly came home with bruises on her hands and arms.

Davila, a school bus monitor, was charged in August with assaulting the girl on the bus.

Police said video footage obtained from the First Student Bus Co. showed that Guzman sent and received a total of 1,068 text messages between April 6 and May 15, 2010.
