Diagnose Cable Card Problems, pt 3

Turned on the TV after a rough day and saw this static, unchanging screen. Cable service apparently froze while delivering children's program and never unfroze. The error message appears to be targeted at service technicians; it's certainly nothing a consumer can fix. A call to TWC's service department got the cable working again without the need for an in-person service technician's visit. The call took 15 minutes from dial-in to resolution. Not bad. We've had the service a month and it's the second time it has crapped out, requiring a service call.

Have had Time Warner Cable since the end of December 2007. The first cable box froze every other time we turned on TV. After four service calls and remote reboots, they allowed me to bring the box in and get a new box.

The new box changes resolution randomly and has required manual rebooting twice so far. Sometimes whole swathes of channels are out. Browsing from a non-HD channel (like Noggin) to an HD channel (like PBS HD) is certain to mess up the resolution and can sometimes cause channels to black out.

Fortunately we watch very little TV. By leaving it on Noggin, for our toddler, we avoid the things that can break the system (such as changing channels).
